Program Overview
Everything you need to know about our Massage Therapy program
The curriculum for students enrolled in the Massage Therapy course consists of 600 clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations. In addition to the 500 required hours, an additional 100 hours are required by this institution to help develop the physical ability and skill to properly prepare the student for this physically demanding profession.
All 600 hours of education are provided under active and direct supervision of qualified instructors. The program prepares students to become eligible to take the state approved test and make written application to the CAMTC for certification as required by California Assembly Bill 1147.
This course is designed to introduce the entry-level Massage Therapy student to the administration of professional Massage Therapy through three phases: Day 1 - Tactics for Success, Phase I - Essentials of Massage Therapy, and Phase II - Essentials of Therapeutic Practices.

Day 1 - Tactics for Success
Pre-requisite and introduction preparing students for success by stressing time management, business ethics, and standard precautions for health, hygiene and self-care.
Ethics & Health/Hygiene
The unspoken code of conduct and boundaries for professionalism, common forms of cross-contamination, ways to prevent disease spread, and importance of a clean environment.
Anatomy & Physiology
Introduction to the human body including cells, tissues, body compass, and in-depth study of body systems, structures, and the effects of massage.
Swedish Massage I & II
Foundation of all massage including fundamentals and safety of body mechanics, draping, contraindications and indications, history of massage, client communication, and documentation.
Pathology & Contraindications
Disease development, how diseases affect the human body, common disorders, indications and contraindications, and precautions during therapeutic treatments.
Aromatherapy
Use of essential oils to improve health and well-being, psychological and physical benefits when used correctly.
Assessment & Documentation
Client consultations in clinical settings, evaluating client needs, scheduling appointments, maintaining client records and SOAP notes.
Massage for Special Populations
Working with clients with special needs including prenatal massage, post-partum care, and techniques for individuals who may have disadvantages in benefiting from classical massage.
Reflexology
Therapeutic treatment promoting pain relief and overall good health through manipulation of the feet using specific pressure points.
Spa Services
Therapeutic treatments and services used in spa settings including wraps, scrubs, and body treatments.
Chair Massage
Working "on the go" with 15-20 minute treatments on a mobile, portable chair to build clientele.
Kinesiology & Passive Joint Movement
Function, interaction and movement of bones, joints and muscles including palpations and working with clients who have decreased range of motion.
Deep Tissue Massage
Skills for relief of deep tension and knots on muscles, tissues, and fascia with proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
Sports Massage
Circulatory strokes, stretches, trigger points, increased range of motion, and preparing/maintaining the body for athletic activity.
Stone Massage
Use of oils and hot or cold stones to relax and soothe muscles, including prevention of cross-contamination and sanitation.
Business Practices & Career Development
Basic principles of developing a business, forms of proprietorship, bookkeeping, marketing, licensing, permits, professional relationships, resume writing, and interviewing.
MBLEx Prep
Preparation for students to apply, take and pass the national Massage Therapist written exam.
Clinical Internship
Student clinic hours including massage and bodywork on paying and non-paying clients, setting up and cleaning, client interviews, intake forms, feedback, and SOAP notes.

Academic Requirements
Grading standards and graduation requirements
Grading System
Students will be tested and receive a letter grade after the completion of each theory course. Tests are typically graded during class, and results recorded on the student's individual grade sheet.
- Letter Grades:
- •90% to 100% = "A" Excellent
- •80% to 89% = "B" Good
- •70% to 79% = "C" Average
- •60% to 69% = "D" Needs to Retake Test
- •0% to 59% = "F" Failed
Students need to retake all tests with scores below 70%. Students must maintain a "C" average for successful progression and graduation.
Overall grades are determined on the basis of the student's attitude and ability to perform elements of the course curriculum: approximately 25% written tests, 50% attendance, and 25% practical performance skills.
Massage Therapy students will be assessed at 50% and 100% of class attendance.
Graduation Requirements
- Complete all required classroom and practical/laboratory education and training with a GPA of no less than 70% ("C")
- Complete an SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) evaluation
- Complete an exit interview with administration
- Pay all tuition due to the school prior to graduation (unless written arrangement made)
- Receive diploma/certificate of completion upon graduation
- Note: Attendance and/or graduation from a California Massage Therapy Council approved school does not guarantee certification by CAMTC. Applicants for certification shall meet all requirements as listed in California Business and Professions Code section 4600 et seq.
Licensing Requirements
