Everything you need to know about our Manicuring Program program

The International School of Beauty Manicuring/Nail Care Program prepares students for a career as a Manicurist, Consultant on Beauty and Personal Appearance, Beauty and Cosmetic Sales, Salon Manager or Owner.

The curriculum consists of 400 clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations covering all practices of a manicurist pursuant to Section 7316 of the Barbering and Cosmetology Act. 415 hours are devoted to Practical Operations in Nail Care and 185 hours to Technical Instruction in Health and Safety.

The Barbering and Cosmetology Act as well as the Board's Rules and Regulations and safety measures.

Knowledge of hazardous substances and training in chemicals and health in establishments, the use of material safety data sheets, protection from hazardous chemicals and preventing communicable diseases.

Recognition of bacteria and prevention of communicable disease, structures and functions of the human body, and checking for conditions, abrasions, diseases and contraindications.

Academic Requirements

Grading standards and graduation requirements

Grading System

Students will be tested and receive a letter grade after the completion of each theory course. Tests are typically graded during class, and results recorded on the student's individual grade sheet.

  • Letter Grades:
  • 90% to 100% = "A" Excellent
  • 80% to 89% = "B" Good
  • 70% to 79% = "C" Average
  • 60% to 69% = "D" Needs to Retake Test
  • 0% to 59% = "F" Failed

Students need to retake all tests with scores below 70%. Students must maintain a "C" average for successful progression and graduation.

Overall grades are determined on the basis of the student's attitude and ability to perform elements of the course curriculum: approximately 25% written tests, 50% attendance, and 25% practical performance skills.

Manicuring/Nail Care students will be assessed at 50% and 100% of class attendance.

Graduation Requirements

  • Complete all required classroom and practical/laboratory education and training with a GPA of no less than 70% ("C")
  • Complete an SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) evaluation
  • Complete an exit interview with administration
  • Pay all tuition due to the school prior to graduation (unless written arrangement made)
  • Receive diploma/certificate of completion upon graduation
  • Students who have reached the minimum age of 17 years will be assisted in completing the necessary documents to file the appropriate Barbering and Cosmetology examination

Licensing Requirements

The applicant must be 17 years of age or older and have completed the 10th grade. A license will be granted by the State of California only after the student has successfully completed and graduated from the course and passed the licensing exam with an overall average of 75%.
